These 4 wires lead into a plug connection that is white and gray. I have done the work on my vehicle for the last three years, I own the Haynes manual and I am fairly familiar with my truck. Repair manuals are also called shop manuals, maintenance manuals, service manuals, or technical information manuals. Before replacing the solenoid I took the starter in with the solenoid attached to Autozone and had them test it. Line up the timing marks. Come to think about it though, you may want to print and take it with you in the truck, so you can note what's same and what's not - too much to just remember. Did you have the meter on the voltage setting? First check 2 grounds at head are good, otherwise nothing counts.
But no volts until you turn the key. If the control panel is not broken then it might be prevented from performing any function without the proper signal or power coming from the ignition switch. They placed it in the machine and told me that the solenoid was shorting out and that the starter was arching. I also have the factory wiring diagrams which are way better than Chilton. Fix it right the first time with the factory repair manual and save money by doing the job yourself. With key off, head in or out, should have batt at head, Lo relay and little resistor. I pulled the resistor out - looks fine - zero ohms when checked on either side of the resistor. The purple wire has no voltage until the key is in the start position. I have swapped the connections between all three with no change. Did they install a harness from a different generation or am I just missing wires? Not pretty but it is a 91 with only 80k miles - never towed - never plowed.
What color are the groud wires at the head? There is a black wire going to the blower motor area below the computer near the purple wire - i did not check this one. I put the new starter in several times, using the gappers and attempting to get it positioned with the right clearance so that it would work properly. I'll have more details and pic's on Saturday. There may be two sending units like my 1989, there's one above the oil filter there's a cone over it and there is one just to the right of the distributor no matter if the one down below or not. Nov 28, 2012 I sounds like it might be a window switch that has gone bad ck the connector at the window motor by connecting a test light across the 2 wires operate both window switches the test light should light If it doesnt then connect the test light to a good ground and back prob the connector on either wire and operate the switch in both directions the test light should light In one position of the switch then ck the other wire the same way and the test light should light up with the switch in the other position down up wich ever wire the test light does not light up on needs to be cked for a break. Just trying to jumper it to get it running temporarily. Reach under the dash and find the switch you will feel a button on top of the wight switch push it down pull the switch knob all the way out, Unhook battery first then unscrew the beauty ring then pull the switch down and then remove wire connector and go buy a new one and replace it.
I plan to scan mine, but just haven't has the time to do it. I have a 91 Silverado k1500. It's been a while since I checked this but I seem to recall it registering on the voltmeter at 2 or 3 points. Again, everything on the interior turns on and the exterior turns on as well, however, when I crank the engine nothing happens no turning. Crabtruck gotta be a story behind this name. Nevertheless, the mechanic at Autozone said even with the failing starter it still had enough life in it to atleast start the vehicle for a little bit longer. I believe they were used through 1990.
Lastly, my driver door sages a bit. Hello, just purchased my first Chevy truck and already having a few questions. Tried jumping from the battery to the yellow ignition switch wire that runs to the neutral safety switch, but nothing. But as the switch is replaced, get the voltage at the switch tested to confirm the switch is actually receiving voltage. I have no power on the tan lines going to the blower door motors. May 06, 2009 Check your cruise control fuse or relay. It will repeat that every key on for 2 minutes.
I have the 1988-91 squarebody manuals scanned. I think you have a open connection for ground. I'm a pretty smart guy but I do not do well with wiring. Should more that one of these have current with the ignition on or off or with the lights on or off? With Controller off or not working, one is and one isn't. The 94 seems to have 4 relays whereas I have only 3. If yes, then you know wiring is issue.
When key is at starting position this wire should have power from the switch all the way to the starter solenoid The smaller wire on the battery positive cable is the main fusible link wire. Thanks a million Yeah, its not big enough and I tried to save the diagram. Couple odd items on 91, that's the year they introduced the lo-refrig-detect system. I spliced the wire exposiing clean copper and crimped it with a joiner. An old note of mine suggests the part number for more stable head was 16152129 I recommend verifying the ground and if that gets the head working, you may need to replace blower relays if the chattering connection cooked them inside.
